Versant®, the only competency‐based solution dedicated to developing all nurses, has partnered with Centra to develop and implement a nursing workforce development strategy across their healthcare system. Both organizations recognize an opportunity to standardize each nurse’s transition to practice at Centra by providing competency assessment, remediation, and validation for its entire nursing workforce.

Over the last 20 years, Versant has proven to be the leader in transition to practice programs. Its work with organizations has resulted in higher quality of care scores, increased retention, improved workforce satisfaction and self-efficacy. Versant’s Competency-Based System™ addresses the development and maintenance needs of all individuals in all environments where nurses practice including, but not limited to, acute care, ambulatory, rural access, home health and long-term care. This same system is used at all stages of a nurse’s career, from student nurses to nursing leadership.

Centra is a regional not-for-profit healthcare system based in Lynchburg, Virginia, with four hospitals across central and southern Virginia. With more than 7,700 caregivers, 400 employed providers and physicians and a medical staff of nearly 800, Centra serves over 500,000 people throughout the region.

Centra has its own medical group with more than 90 different locations, including home health and hospice services, as well as a school of nursing with programs for nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, and ADN-BSN candidates. They remain committed to maintaining their nursing workforce’s capability to provide sustainable, safe, and efficient care across the entire population health spectrum. This partnership empowers Centra to achieve new levels of excellence and exemplifies their commitment to the region.

“500,000 people trust Centra,” said Versant President, Larissa Africa. “Especially now, the care these nurses provide is essential to their community. We are proud to partner with an organization that recognizes the need to standardize their entry into practice. Together, we can prepare Virginia’s nurses to provide safe, competent, and compassionate care throughout their entire careers. We couldn’t ask for a better partner than Centra.”
